CISG by jurisdiction
Iceland
Status under the CISG:
Contracting State
Iceland has been a CISG Contracting State since 1 June 2002.
As authorized by Art. 94 CISG, Iceland has declared that the CISG does not apply to sales contracts between a party from Iceland and another party from Denmark, Finland, Norway or Sweden (i.e. intra-Nordic trade).
Further information:
Iceland deposited its instrument of accession in accordance with Art. 91(3), (4) CISG on 10 May 2011.
In contrast to the other Nordic Contracting States, Iceland had never declared an Art. 92 CISG reservation.
Implementation of the Sales Convention into domestic law in Iceland
Iceland has implemented the CISG into domestic law by including the CISG’s provisions into the Act No. 50/2000 on the Sale of Goods, a domestic law that not only covers international sales contracts, but also comprises provisions on consumer sales and other types of sales that lie outside of the CISG’s scope:
Lög um lausafjárkaup, Lög nr. 50 16. maí 2000 (as introduced in 2000, not including subsequent amendments)
Act No. 50/2000 on the Sale of Goods of 16 May 2000 (in English translation)
